List or group: Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 Schedule 1 and Certain Substances
Substance identifier: 556-67-2
Substance identifier (2): 2 - 92
Substance name: Cyclotetrasiloxane, octamethyl-
Additional information: This substance is included in item 92 (Cyclotetrasiloxane, octamethyl-, which has the molecular formula C8H24O4Si4) on Part 2 of Schedule 1 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA), as set out in the recent publications(s) listed below and/or in: Canada Gazette Part I, Vol. 143, No. 5, January 31, 2009 and Screening Assessment for the Challenge: Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4). The addition of a substance on Schedule 1 enables the Minister of the Environment and the Minister of Health to implement risk management measures under CEPA to manage potential environmental and human health risks that the substance may pose.

This item might include other substances that have not been identified in this Substances Search list. If a substance is added to Schedule 1, there could be associated risk management measures. For further information, see Toxic substances list.

List or group: Pollution Prevention Planning Notices
Substance identifier: 556-67-2
Substance identifier (2):
Substance name: Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (Siloxane D4)
Additional information: Pollution prevention planning notices are mandatory instruments. They require companies to prepare and implement pollution prevention plans.

This substance is included in the siloxane D4 in industrial effluents pollution prevention planning notice, in which the requirements to be met are listed.

This notice applies to any owner or operator of an industrial facility that manufactures or uses D4 or a mixture containing D4, where the total quantity of D4 used or manufactured is equal to or greater than 100 kg during a calendar year, and as a result of manufacturing or use, the effluent at the final discharge point(s) of the facility contains D4.

For further information on this substance, refer to the: Toxic substances list: Siloxane D4.

For further information on pollution prevention planning notices, refer to the guidelines.
