Additional information: This substance, listed in Part 1, Item #29 with a Hazard Category (I = inhalation hazard) under schedule 1 with CAS Registry number 75-21-8 is subjected to the reporting of a release in section 18 of the Environmental Emergency Regulations, 2019 if it meets the minimum concentration of 10% (mass/mass) and is not part of exclusions in 2(2).

In addition, facilities will have to report quantities on site or/and create and bring into effect an environmental emergency plan for their site, if they meet certain conditions in the Environmental Emergency Regulations, 2019 and have a minimum of 4.5 tonnes on site.

This substance is included in the ethylene oxide release guidelines.

The guidelines for the reduction of ethylene oxide releases from sterilization applications have been in effect since October 1, 2005. The release guidelines recommend control efficiency standards and best practices to limit releases of ethylene oxide to the environment from sterilization applications. The release guidelines apply to facilities that purchase or use 10 kg or more of ethylene oxide per year for sterilization applications.
